PE & Sport Premium Funding
The government provides additional funding to primary schools to improve the quality and breadth of physical education (PE) and sport. This funding, known as the PE and Sport Premium, is ring-fenced, meaning it can only be used to support PE and sport provision in schools.
Funding is allocated based on the number of primary-aged pupils (aged 5–11) recorded in the January school census. Each year, our school receives:
-
£16,000 plus
-
£10 per pupil
This funding must be used to improve PE and sport provision and to ensure that all children benefit, regardless of sporting ability.
Schools are required to spend the funding in ways that have a positive and sustainable impact on pupils’ physical activity, engagement, and long-term participation in sport.
Our Principles
At St James’ CE Primary School, we are passionate about sport and physical activity and recognise the vital role they play in children’s physical, social, and emotional development.
We believe that a well-organised and engaging PE and sport curriculum:
-
Builds confidence and resilience
-
Encourages children to rise to challenges
-
Develops teamwork, perseverance, and a sense of achievement
-
Nurtures the character and life skills children need to succeed
Our aim is to provide a positive, inclusive and motivating experience in PE and sport for all pupils. The PE and Sport Premium enables us to ensure that children are:
-
Physically active on a regular basis
-
Enthusiastic and confident participants in sport
-
Developing healthy habits and positive attitudes towards physical activity
In addition to improving fitness, we want our children to value teamwork, fair play, and a healthy lifestyle. This funding helps lay strong foundations so that children develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and sport.
