At St James’ School we are committed to ensuring that every pupil achieves their full potential. We recognise that some pupils may face additional challenges and disadvantages that can affect their education.

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding provided by the Department for Education (DfE) to raise attainment and support the progress of disadvantaged pupils, including those eligible for free school meals or who have been eligible within the last six years. The funding is allocated directly to schools and is clearly identifiable.

Purpose of the Funding

The Pupil Premium is intended to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most. Schools are best placed to decide how the funding should be spent to meet the needs of individual pupils.

Our Approach at St James’

At St James’ School:

  • We support all pupils through high‑quality teaching across the curriculum.

  • We provide targeted interventions and additional support for vulnerable and disadvantaged learners based on their individual needs.

  • Our School Leadership Team and Governing Body closely monitor the impact of all spending and interventions, including the Pupil Premium, to ensure it is making a positive difference.

Publication of Our Pupil Premium Strategy

In line with DfE requirements, our Pupil Premium strategy statement is published on this website annually. It explains:

  • how the school’s Pupil Premium and Catch‑up Premium funding is being used,

  • the educational outcomes being achieved for disadvantaged pupils,

  • the evidence base for our chosen approaches, and

  • how progress and impact are measured.
